Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

On August 6, 1945, two large bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, during World War II, making it an unforgettable event for the entire world. The man-made disaster claimed the lives of millions of people, including children. What caused it, and how did it happen?

Before the outbreak of World War II in 1939, a group of American scientist refugees from Europe founded the Nazi army, which was conducting nuclear research in Germany. As a result, the US government spent money on developing nuclear weapons in 1940. When the United States invaded World War II, it fell under the control of the American army. Following that, the US Corps of Engineers began developing a hidden nuclear weapon known as the “Manhattan Project.”

Manhattan Project

After a few days, they needed the main source material for the nuclear bomb, Uranium 235 and Plutonium (PU — 239), which required a large number of scientists to prepare. And this information was sent to New Mexico’s “Los Alamos.”

Under the direction of S.Robert Oppenheimer, a team worked to develop the dangerous atomic bomb using this material. In the early morning of July 16, 1945, they successfully tested the first Manhattan Project plutonium atom bomb experiment in Los Alamos, New Mexico. When America was testing the first atomic bomb, Germany was defeated by America’s European allies. However, Japan, on the other hand, chose to fight them bravely. Knowing that Japan cannot prevail against America at the start of 1944, they continue to fight against them, putting them in a terrible situation. During Harry S. Truman’s presidency,q. Truman, who was poised to assume the presidency of the United States in 1945, In the three years of the Pacific War, the Japanese armies have taken the most casualties. As a result, it is difficult for America to confront Japan directly.

Japan’s militarist government denied US allies’ surrender declarations in the last month of July. They also threatened Japan with retaliation if they declined to recognize the declaration. General Douglas MacArthur and other senior military leaders decided to launch the attack on Japan. They planned to stage the great invasion through “Operation Downfall.” However, nearly ten lakhs of people will die as a result of their actions, according to President Truman. As a result, they believe that such tragedies should not occur in his country. Dwight Eisenhower and other scientists went against War Secretary Henry Stimson’s and other scientists’ advice. They decided to end the war quickly. They decided to build atomic bombs. The proponents of the atomic bomb, including Secretary of State James Brynes, asserted that the bomb’s power puts an end to war and makes it a strong weapon in the world. It’s 500 miles from Tokyo, and the main production house has a population of 3,50,000 people. Yes, Hiroshima was the first city to be bombed by the United States.

After arriving at the US base on Tinian in the Pacific, They loaded the U-235 into a B-29 bomber flight, which weighed approximately 9000 pounds. The “Little Bomb” was dropped through that flight at 8.15 a.m. on August 6, 1945. In Hiroshima, it exploded from a height of 2000 feet. At 12 to 15,000 TNT, it kills cities of nearly 8 square kilometers. Many people were burned within seconds of the massive explosion, including children who screamed that they couldn’t go to school and were forced into the bus by their mothers. Their skin was peeled by itself. And everyone is knocked down by the sun. Children were running outside due to the unbearable sun. Owing to the extreme heat, residents in the area were jumping into the sea. However, the water absorbs heat and evaporates. Many people have died without even realizing what is going on. Many people died because they believed they could at least get a single drop of water. It had devolved into a huge disaster at that point. But the cruelty doesn’t stop there.

As God had predicted, the Japanese people would react in a big way. When do we consider what we will do as a result of this destruction? The Japanese government refused to surrender once more. Big Charles Sweeney flew with another b29 bomber from Tinian on August 9. This time, the city of Kokura was their goal. However, there were a lot of clouds in the atmosphere. As a result, they agreed to stage Nagasaki. On 11.02, they detonated the “Fat Man,” the second atomic bomb. This bomb is more effective than the one dropped on Hiroshima the first time. And this bomb may be as heavy as 10,000 pounds. It was created by detonating a 22-kilo ton bomb. However, Nagasaki’s landscapes were luckily in the center of valleys. It limits the impact of blasting, allowing only 4 sq km to be destroyed.

On August 11, 1945, Japan’s King Hirohito pronounced the country’s surrender. And the word of this spread like wildfire all over the world. And America was overjoyed, and they began to rejoice in their triumph. On the other hand, Japan saw a bloodbath. The proper surrender agreement was signed on September 2 in Missouri, America. The infrastructure of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was completely devastated as a result of the sudden disaster. There was no proper proof of how many people died in this dangerous explosion. However, Hiroshima claimed the lives of nearly 70,000–1,35,000 people. And 60,000 to 80,000 people died in Nagasaki. And the Japanese people are suffering from a slew of side effects as a result of the high levels of radiation. Nature has retaliated in a variety of ways for what we have done to them? People are killing themselves in these heinous situations. However, disasters of this kind breed more violence. After that, we would trust that such a tragedy will never happen again.
